Jones: Jones played two drives, one of which went for 68 yards on 13 plays and ended in a field goal. He finished the night having completed 6-of-10 passes for 69 yards, no touchdowns, and no interceptions. Unlike last season, he seemed to play with some confidence and composure.
RBs: New York got strong production from reserve running backs Antonio Williams (9 carries, 61 yards, 1 touchdown) and Gary Brightwell (7 carries, 40 yards). Saquon Barkley, who averaged 3.2 yards on 4 carries, did not pop in limited action.
WRs: Colin Johnson (7 catches for 82 yards) and Richie James (3 catches for 44 yards and 1 touchdown) were standouts at receiver for the Giants.
Zappe: Patriots fourth-round rookie QB Bailey Zappe had a productive night — he completed 19-of-32 passes for 205 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception. His favored targets were Kristian Wilkerson (8 catches for 99 yards) and Lil’Jordan Humphrey (6 catches for 62 yards and 1 touchdown).
Rookies: Patriots second-round rookie WR Tyquan Thornton came away with a 7-yard touchdown catch and fourth-round rookie RB Pierre Strong Jr. led the team in rushing yards with 25 (4.2 ypc).
