WHAT IS WEST COAST OFFENSE?
WEST COAST OFFENSE: an offensive strategy built around short (15 yards or less), high percentage, horizontal passes.
As the game progresses, the west coast philosophy holds that the defense will begin to 'stretch out,' as it schemes around stopping the short passes - which will in turn open up opportunities for deep passes and long runs.
A west coast offense requires an accurate, quick-release quarterback and sure-handed possession receivers, who are skilled at catching passes (often off slant routes) in heavy traffic.
